Welcome once again to our weekly e/m-learning glossary! Our term for this week is: 'Synchronous E-learning.'
As the name suggests, synchronous e-learning is 'synchronized' learning across the internet or intranet medium. It means that a facilitator is conducting a LIVE online learning session (or webinar) for an audience. In other words, the class in session is done through a 'Virtual Classroom.'
The biggest advantage of a synchronous session is that a class can take place across different time zones and numerous geographical locations. With this important advantage in mind, a class can therefore be held with the facilitator and learners in their own homes or offices across the globe - thus greatly lowering the cost of learning.
Here's a short video from Walden University's Karen Dunn explaining synchronous e-learning. Cheers!
