It's that time of the week again when we introduce a new term to our ever-expanding educational technology / e-learning vocabulary. This week's term is something that's mentioned in everyday conversations that involve mobile apps and information technology - cloud computing. Although the term gets tossed around a lot, there are still a lot of questions from us who aren't really that "techie".
Cloud computing solves the problem of equipment, software, maintenance, and their associated costs. Cloud computing companies offer the same solutions for a fraction of the cost in getting an in-house network. What's more is that there is no need buy equipment and hire manpower for maintenance and support - these companies take care of them for you. As a result, small and medium-sized schools (or businesses) now have access to infrastructure that were once only available to large companies. Now, talk about leveling the playing field!
And oh yeah, there's only one requirement - an internet connection!
Here's a short video from our friends over at Salesforce further explaining what cloud computing is. Cheers!
